1st Muslim Scout Group Launches
Scouts in Leeds are this morning celebrating the launch of the first muslim Scout Group in leeds. The event was also the largest investiture ceremony in living memory. Last night, Leeds Grand Mosque invested 15 Scouts at once, into the first Muslim Scout Troop in Leeds.
The Scout Leader for the Troop, Lasaad Laouini a former Scout in Tunisia said: “It’s taken six months to prepare for tonight. The neckercheifs our scouts will where have been hand made in Morroco. The enthusiasm of the young people for the fun and challenge of Scouting is very evident.”
Richard Frank, the Scout Leader from the neighbouring Scout Group in Burley (43rd Pheonix St Mary’s) who has partnered with the Grand Mosque in fostering the Troop added: “This weekend we’re off on a hike on Otley Chevin where the new Troop will have a go at lightweight cooking outdoors for the first time.”
